What is Stewardess Diet and Does it Really Work?

Did You Know?
The stewardess diet is named so, as it is believed that most stewardesses circulate a copy of this diet, and follow it regularly.

We are always looking for quick ways to lose weight, aren't we? This obsession with weight has led to emergence of numerous fad diets. Not all diets work, in fact most don't really work and aren't healthy either. Stewardess diet is one such fad diet, that is not very harmful, but not recommended either. The best way to lose weight is by eating healthy and exercising regularly.

But, then sometimes it may so happen that you quickly need to knock off a few pounds for a special occasion, and you don't have any other option; this diet may be a good option to try in such cases.

What is the Stewardess Diet?

Also known as the 4-day wonder diet, the flight attendant diet, Mayo clinic diet, or TWA stewardess diet, it is basically a fad diet that will help you lose weight in a short span of time. It involves no unique or expensive foods, and does work, albeit you follow it perfectly without cheating. You eat a lot of protein, vegetables, and fruits like grapefruit and apple, which helps to cut down the fat. Drinking a lot of water is also very crucial to increase your metabolism.

Stewardess Diet Meal Plan

✦ DAY 1
Breakfast: 1/2 grapefruit and black coffee

Lunch: Broiled steak, tomato and lettuce salad without any dressing, and 1 apple.

Dinner: 2 Hard-boiled eggs, green beans, and 1 grapefruit.

✦ DAY 2
Breakfast: 1/2 grapefruit and black coffee

Lunch: 1 pork chop, lettuce salad, 6 oz. tomato juice

Dinner: Cauliflower, squash, green beans, and 6 oz. applesauce

✦ DAY 3
Breakfast: 1/2 grapefruit and black coffee

Lunch: Celery, lettuce salad (no dressing), hamburger patty (broiled), and one small apple

Dinner: Broiled chicken, stewed tomatoes, and a glass of prune juice

✦ DAY 4
Breakfast: 1/2 grapefruit and black coffee

Lunch: 2 scrambled eggs or hard-boiled, green beans, and 6 oz. pineapple juice

Dinner: Steak, lettuce & tomatoes (no dressing), and 6 oz. tomato juice

Tips

✦ As you can see, all the ingredients for the stewardess diet can be easily found. It is better to shop for all the four days diet needs beforehand. Going grocery shopping when dieting is a real bad idea, as you may get food cravings.

✦ The rules of the diet say that you are not supposed to substitute any food, or change the proportion. If you do substitute something, it will affect your weight loss. The reason the diet works is calorie restriction, so any deviation from the meal plan will mess up with your diet.

✦ You are not supposed to add sugar or any other sweetener to your coffee. Eating grapefruit daily is also essential. Do stick to the proportions.

✦ The most important rule is to not follow this diet for more than 4 days, and not do it more than once a month.

Does the stewardess diet work?

You can lose up to 10 pounds in just 4 days, if you strictly follow this diet. This diet is definitely very hard to stick to. Since, you are eating very few calories, there are chances you'll be very hungry. If you can control those hunger pangs, then you'll succeed in knocking off those extra kilos.

The diet requires you to be really sincere with what you eat. Even a little cheating here and there can entirely mess up with the results. There are chances that once you stop following this diet, you end up gaining back all the weight that you lost, so do engage in regular exercise and controlled eating afterward as well.

Difference Between Active and Passive Range of Motion Exercises

Stretching and regular movement can greatly improve one's range of motion, while an inactive lifestyle may affect it very badly.
A person who is affected by an injury or some health condition may become inactive. Total inactivity may lead to decrease in a person's muscle strength and flexibility, which may over time result in dysfunction or even locking of the joints. Thus, range of motion exercises have been designed to avoid such problems. However, we first need to know what is meant by range of motion.

Range of motion (or ROM) is a measure of the movement at each joint. It is also referred to as a joint's capacity of moving from full flexion to full extension. The primary purpose of range of motion exercises is to maintain the strength, flexibility, and mobility of specific joints. Furthermore, they help reduce stiffness, swelling, pain, and help improve one's range of motion. These exercises mainly involve stretching the muscles and moving the joints.

ROM exercises are of two types. When a person is able to do the exercises without any assistance, they may be referred to as active range of motion exercises (AROM). In this case, the person has the muscle strength for the movement of joints or to perform the exercise by himself/herself. Whereas, there are some exercises wherein a person needs assistance as he/she has less muscle strength, and these can be referred to as passive range of motion (PROM) exercises. In this case, the person need not put any effort as someone like a caregiver will help him do the joint exercises. The other type of range of motion exercises is active assistive (or AAROM). Here, the individual uses the muscles surrounding the joint, but also requires the help of a therapist or a device to do the same. Here, we give you the differences between AROM and PROM exercises.

Differences

AROM exercises
◼ These exercises do not require assistance and can be performed by a person on his/her own.
◼ AROM exercises mainly focus on improving joint function, flexibility, or building of muscles. They also       help reduce pain and improve strength.
◼ No other person or machine involved.

PROM exercises
◼ PROM exercises mainly focus on maintaining the flexibility of joints. In this case, increase in strength does not take place as they are mainly done to enable movement.
◼ These exercises require assistance, which is usually provided by a caregiver or a therapist.
◼ A therapist or machine (or device) is always involved.

The type of ROM exercise that is most beneficial for a person, would be best decided by a therapist. Sometimes, AROM and PROM may be used together. This happens when a person has a certain pair of joints that is strong while another pair of joints that is weak. In this case, AROM exercises may be recommended for the strong joints and PROM exercises for the weaker ones. Whether a person needs to perform AROM exercises or PROM exercises would also depend on some other factors. For example, a person who is disabled or bedridden due to an injury or illness would be recommended the passive range of motion exercises. On the other hand, a person who is able to move on his own can improve joint function, flexibility, and build muscles, by performing active range of motion exercises.

ROM exercises need to be stopped immediately if you experience any kind of pain. Moreover, it is always better to consult your physical therapist to confirm whether the exercise is being performed correctly or the pain is due to some other reason.

How to Remove Liquid Bandage Properly..

Application of baby oil or nail polish remover can reduce the stickiness and help separate the bandage from the skin easily. The following Buzzle article elaborates more on how to remove liquid bandage from the skin
Tip to remove liquid bandage.

Did You Know?
The liquid bandage sloughs off automatically within a week or two, after applying it on the wound.

With the advent of liquid bandages, caring for minor wounds has become much easier. In fact, the use of conventional sticky bandages has become passe, thanks to the increasing popularity of liquid bandages. These new bandages act like antiseptics and help protect the wound from infections.

The liquid bandage is formulated in such a way that it falls off naturally when the wound has healed completely. However, in case you feel the need to remove the bandage before it loses its stickiness and comes off naturally, here's what you can do to separate the bandage from your skin painlessly

Ways to Remove Liquid Bandage

Method 1
Removing the bandage manually by simply pulling it off can be slightly painful. However, as the wound slowly heals, the bandage begins to wear off. During this time, gently try to remove the bandage by pulling its peripheral edges. If it is not painful, continue to pull its edges, until it is finally removed.

Method 2
Removal, firstly, requires softening the liquid bandage. This can be easily achieved by placing another coat of liquid bandage over the existing one. After it is done, immediately with a soft cloth, rub it off to remove the bandage. Do not wait too long after application, else the secondary coat will become hard, making it more difficult to remove the two layers of liquid bandage.

Method 3
A nail polish remover can easily dissolve liquid bandage, which can help in its removal. Using a cotton swab or a cotton ball, place a small quantity of nail polish remover on the bandage. Acetone, the main component of nail polish remover, weakens the adhesive bonding of liquid bandage. After application, gently rub the area to remove the bandage. However, this method can cause slight irritation when the wound that has not healed, comes in contact with the acetone-containing solution.

Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), available in spray bottles, also contains acetone. So application of DMSO can also help in dissolving the bandage.

Method 4
Soaking the liquid bandage in baby oil is one of the easiest methods to remove it. Using a cotton ball, generously apply baby oil on the bandage. Leave it for a few minutes and then rinse the affected site with warm water and soap. You may have to repeat this a couple of times until the bandage softens. Instead of baby oil, you can use mineral oil to coat the bandage too.

Method 5
Apply a BAND-AID soaked in overly salted water on the liquid bandage. Wait for some time and during this period, add water to the bandage as soon it becomes dry. The salt water will help to weaken the adhesion of the liquid bandage.

Removing Liquid Bandage from Fabric

When applying the bandage on the wound, we may drop some of it on our clothes. Washing the affected portion of the cloth with soap and water often does not work in removing the stains. You need to use an acetone nail polish remover to get rid of the stains. However, if the component of the fabric is acetate, triacetate, or modacrylic, avoid using this remedy, as it can dissolve these types of fabrics.

This remedy is effective for clothes made of silk, cotton, denim, and linen. In case, you do not know the material used for making the fabric, firstly just dab it on the less visible part of the clothing and check whether there is any damage to the fabric. If damage is not visible, you can apply it and when you notice that the layer of bandage has weakened, use a cotton towel to wipe it off.

Layers of the Epidermis and their Functions

The epidermis, which is the topmost layer, actually has 5 sub-layers. The stratum basale is the deepest layer, while the stratum corneum is the outermost layer of epidermis. This Buzzle article takes a closer look at these layers along with their functions.
Layers of the epidermis

Did You Know?
Dermis, the layer that lies just below the epidermis, has 15 to 40 times the thickness of the epidermis layer.

The skin that we observe is actually the epidermis―the outermost layer of the skin. The dermis and hypodermis are the other layers of skin that lie below the epidermis. The epidermis does not contain any blood vessels and so has to depend on the dermis layer for supply of nutrition. The epidermis is divided into 5 sub-layers, that have different functions. They are discussed below.

Five Layers of the Epidermis
The 5 layers of epidermis in order from deep into superficial, are given below:

Stratum Basale
It is the innermost layer of the epidermis situated just above the dermis. The columnar keratinocyte cells form a major part of stratum basale layer. Unlike other layers of epidermis that are a multilayered block of cells, the stratum basale is just a single layer of cells, but does an important job of generating new cells. At stratum basale, mitosis (cell division) takes place, which leads to the production of new cells, that eventually reach the top to replace the hardened, dead cells of stratum corneum. The cells located in the epidermis are nourished by the dermis layer lying below it. However, these cells do not survive as soon as they move further away from the stratum basale.

Stratum Spinosum
This is the second layer of the epidermis, which consists of 5 to 15 layers of polygonal cells. It is located just above the stratum basale containing the Langerhans cells. These cells are a part of the immune system and scavenge on viruses and bacteria to keep the skin safe from infections.

The stratum spinosum is also sometimes referred to the prickly layer, due to the presence of short projections that spring up over the keratinocyte cells that have shifted from the stratum basal layer. These tiny projections or outgrowths help to connect with adjacent cells but give a spiny or prickly appearance to the layer. The keratinocyte cells in the stratum spinosum layer also contain oval-shaped nuclei. The secretion of cytokeratin (a precursor to keratin) takes place in the stratum spinosum, which helps strengthen cell-to-cell adhesion in this layer.

Stratum Granulosum
This is the third layer of the epidermis that consists of flattened granular cells (3-5 layers). As the keratinocyte cells migrate from the previous stratum spinosum to this layer, they turn squamous cells, losing their nuclei. As a result, the cells become flat and contain either keratohyalin or lamellated granules. Keratohyalin present in these granules, is a protein structure that plays a crucial role in the formation of keratin in the upper layers. Whereas, lamellated granules contain glycolipids that act as water sealants.

Stratum Lucidum
This layer is usually detected in portions of the skin that have a thick epidermis. These include the palms of the hands and soles of the feet. These areas of the skin are prone to friction and abrasion, hence they contain stratum lucidum, an additional layer of protection. When examined under a microscope, it appears transparent, but is made up of dead skin cells.

Stratum Corneum
This is the outermost layer of the epidermis that insulates the skin from the outside environment. It acts like a protective covering, keeping the moisture trapped inside the skin. Basically, the layer seals the skin keeping its contents intact. It is due to this layer that the skin is impermeable to quite a few chemicals and watery solutions. Around 10% of the epidermis layer is made up of stratum corneum. This water-proof, 10-micron thick layer comprises of 15-20 layers of dead cells of keratin. The surface layers of epidermis often flake off due to environmental wear and tear.

Things You Need to Know about Dry Drunk Syndrome

Dry drunk syndrome refers to a condition wherein physical and mental symptoms persist in a recovering alcoholic even though he has stopped drinking alcohol. This Buzzle write-up explains the symptoms and treatment of dry drunk syndrome in detail.

According to a study conducted by the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) in 2012, approximately 17 million Americans in the age group of 18 years and above have an alcohol use disorder.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines alcohol abuse as a pattern of drinking that results in harm to one's health, interpersonal relationships, and ability to work. On the other hand, alcoholism is a chronic disease that is characterized by alcohol addiction. The signs of alcoholism include a strong craving for alcohol, inability to limit drinking, and continued use despite physical, psychological, and interpersonal problems. A large number of people are affected by alcohol abuse across the world. Unfortunately, binge drinkers or individuals who drink alcohol frequently don't often realize when alcohol abuse turns into a full-blown alcohol addiction, which is a grave issue that should never be ignored. The first step to tackle the issue of alcoholism is to acknowledge the fact that you are addicted to alcohol.

Sobriety doesn't come easy. A recovering alcoholic is in a fragile state of mind, which can be easily affected. When a recovering alcoholic displays dysfunctional behavioral traits that are characteristic of alcoholism despite abstaining from alcohol, he/she is said to be affected by dry drunk syndrome.

Symptoms of Dry Drunk Syndrome

The term 'dry drunk syndrome' is derived from the words dry and drunk. While the former refers to the fact that a person is practicing abstinence from alcohol, the latter refers to a pathological condition or dysfunctional behavior that is attributed to alcohol consumption. Being dry drunk refers to being in a state that is often observed in recovering alcoholics who have been able to abstain from alcohol, but have not been able to work through the aspects that are essential for staying sober, and leading a healthy life.

A person might be affected by this syndrome, if he/she has been experiencing the following symptoms:

✦ Irritability
✦ Anger
✦ Intolerance/Impatience
✦ Impulsivity
✦ Indecisiveness
✦ Notions of self-importance or self-pity
✦ Compulsive behavior
✦ Low self-esteem
✦ Judgmentalism (Making harsh judgments of oneself or others)
✦ Blaming others for one's shortcomings
✦ Mood swings
✦ Nostalgia (daydreaming or fantasizing about the joys one associates with drinking)
✦ Detachment
✦ Boredom
✦ Decreased interest in going to Alcoholics Anonymous or other support groups
✦ Dropping out of the support group or sessions with the substance abuse counselor

Basically, a dry drunk just stays physically sober, but he/she continues to have the mindset of an alcoholic. Some individuals use alcohol as a means to escape from the challenges that life throws at them. And even if they manage to overcome alcohol addiction, they might still be full of resentment or frustration due to their inadequate coping skills. Such individuals are very likely to relapse, as they often feel dissatisfied and angry. One of the characteristic traits of such individuals is that they are always rationalizing their irresponsible behavior.

An individual affected by dry drunk syndrome is likely to get stressed easily. Dissatisfied with life, he/she might become depressed, and lose interest in activities that he/she enjoyed earlier. Though such individuals might abstain from drinking, they are in denial about their mental state.

They might not drink, but they might reminisce about the times they used to drink. They might consider those times as good times, which can make them more miserable and more likely to relapse.

They might continue to engage in unhealthy behavior. They might boast about themselves and find faults in others. Such individuals are quick to pass harsh judgments, while they justify themselves, however wrong they might be.

At times, they might start playing the blame game, blaming others for the mistakes they have made in life.

They might become aloof and indifferent, which can become a cause of concern for their friends and family members.

How to Overcome Dry Drunk Syndrome

Denial is the biggest hindrance on the path to sobriety. First of all, the affected person needs to acknowledge the fact that he/she needs help. Here are some tips to overcome this problem:

✦ The objective of groups such as the Alcoholics Anonymous is to help individuals affected by alcohol addiction find ways to cope. Following this 12-step program honestly has certainly helped many alcoholics become sober. Going to the meetings, opening up your heart to your sponsor or any other member might surely prove beneficial.

✦ There are several other support groups that you can join. Sharing your experiences and interacting with other individuals who are trying to quit drinking will certainly give you strength.

✦ You can also consult a substance abuse counselor or therapist who can help you get rid of negative thought patterns and help you cope better.

✦ You can also get yourself enrolled in a treatment center. Attending counseling sessions can help you find ways to prevent a relapse.

✦ Pursuing a hobby or spending time doing something that you enjoy can also help in improving your state of mind.

✦ Venting out your emotions to your family and friends might also make you feel better. Penning your thoughts could also help.

How to Deal with a Person Affected by Dry Drunk Syndrome

Dealing with a person suffering from dry drunk syndrome can be quite difficult. The recovering alcoholics might resist the need for making changes, as they think that there's nothing that needs to be corrected or changed. During this time, they need a strong support system. Family members can certainly help the affected person realize the truth, but they need to be very subtle.

Family members should make themselves available, and be ready to listen to the recovering alcoholic, especially when he/she is feeling vulnerable. The affected individual might not realize this, or may not acknowledge the need for their support, but he/she really needs it. Friends and family members need to be extremely patient and forgiving. Relapse is less likely in case of a recovering alcoholic who has a very supportive family. Here are some tips for family members and friends:

✦ Family members must never alienate the affected person. They should try to keep him/her involved. They must pay attention to what he/she is saying.

✦ It is essential to encourage the person to join a support group, go to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, or stay in touch with their sponsor.

✦ Complacency or disinterest could indicate the possibility of a relapse, which is why family members need to keep an eye on the recovering alcoholic.

✦ Family members should refrain from preaching or punishing the affected individual. They should not emotionally blackmail the alcoholic, thereby making him/her feel guilty. Such feelings of guilt could actually induce them to drink.

✦ At the same time, family members should not protect the alcoholic from the consequences of alcohol addiction. They should not make excuses for wrongful behavior of the alcoholic.

✦ Don't belittle them by doing their job, or taking over their responsibilities.

✦ The real test of a recovering alcoholic is his/her ability to abstain from drinking in the presence of alcohol. So, don't lock away or throw bottles. However, do keep an eye on them, at places where alcohol is present.

✦ Family members need to be very strong. They should not consider themselves guilty. It is essential to stay emotionally strong so as to help the recovering alcoholic cope and stop him/her from falling back into the vicious cycle of addiction.

Being a dry drunk means that the recovering alcoholic has not been able to bring about the favorable changes in attitude and behavior that are associated with sobriety in the real sense. Being more involved in the recovery program can certainly help alcoholics, as well as sober individuals that are on the verge of relapsing, turn their life around. Such programs can help them identify their stressors or triggers, and help them find ways to resist the urge to drink.

What to Eat When Dieting

Different people will tell you different things about what you should eat while dieting. However, your only goal when on a diet is to remain fit. Incorporating some healthy foods, and not starving, is the first thing you should do when you embark upon a diet. This article provides information about the same.

Before deciding what you should, and shouldn't, eat when you are dieting, there are certain things you need to keep in mind. While weight loss largely depends on what you eat, some of it also depends on your mindset. You should be determined to lose weight, otherwise no matter what or how you eat, you are not going to experience positive results very easily.

Adopting a Positive Mindset when Dieting
Your thoughts transform into actions when you diet, and that is what makes all the difference. Unless you are confident that what you are doing is best for you, you cannot expect to see results. Do not starve yourself in order to lose weight. Remember, you have to eat to lose weight in a healthy way. What you eat, then, becomes more important. In short, a diet requires your mind to be ready, before your body is ready. You shouldn't have a doubt about the effectiveness of a particular diet when you try it out.

A diet that suits your lifestyle is the one that is best for you. Remember that only eating and not working out is not going to be effective. Your body needs some kind of activity to be able to burn the calories more effectively. Don't deny yourself your favorite foods. Moderation is the key, when it comes to following any diet. The diet should contain foods that will make you feel full for longer; however, you should not restrict to only vegetables. It takes time for your body time to get used to a diet, hence you should slowly introduce the changes in your diet. Do not start a diet suddenly, this will make you feel miserable and hungry. Take a slow and steady approach for effective and maintainable weight loss.

What Foods to Eat When Dieting

While dieting, you need to eat healthy foods that will keep you fuller for longer. Also, avoid skipping meals, particularly breakfast. It is the most important meal of the day, and it gives you energy to keep you functioning efficiently throughout. Here's a list of various foods that are good for the body while dieting.

  • Whole Grain Foods: Foods with complex carbohydrates remain in the body for longer, and keep you full. Such foods include brown rice, oats, barley, and quinoa. Opt for cereals that provide whole grains, as they are great for breakfast too. Don't frown upon your oats porridge, they are very healthy.
  • Protein Rich Foods: Most Americans get a lot of protein because of the consumption of various types of meat. As healthy as that is, they also carry a lot of cholesterol and fat. Hence, choose proteins such as chicken, fish, or turkey (that you can enjoy grilled or steamed). Also, black beans, garbanzo beans, lentils, soy beans, and tofu are great options for vegetarians. Proteins provide the necessary energy to keep the body functioning, so make sure that you include such foods in your diet. Also, a handful of nuts such as almonds, walnuts, pistachios, and pecans are a great inclusion in your diet, and they are a great source of protein.
  • Vegetables: Make sure you include leafy greens, carrots, broccoli, sweet potato, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, and primarily any vegetable you enjoy in your diet. You can also enjoy potatoes, but not in fried or creamy mashed forms. Have them boiled, and you will get more nutrition from them. Make a salad with your favorite vegetables, include them in a nutrition-packed soup, or have them as a snack with a dip such as hummus or salsa.
  • Fruits: Apples, bananas, berries, oranges, watermelons, cantaloupes, papayas, peaches, apricots, kiwis, etc., are all delicious fruits you can enjoy for a snack. Some health experts suggest eating a bowl of fruit before a meal keeps you form eating too much. Try to avoid eating fruits at night, as they don't get digested very easily at those hours.
  • Dairy: A lot of people give up dairy in the hope of losing weight. However, you end up losing an important nutrient in the process, that is calcium. One must consume low-fat and unflavored varieties of yogurt, milk, and cheese, so that you get your necessary nutrition.
  • Oils: Healthy oils have healthy fats that are needed by the body for growth and development. So, stick to olive oil and canola oil in order to get healthy fats in your diet. You can't cook with olive oil, but it can easily be drizzled on steaming piece of grilled fish, or on salad for flavor.

Combine the aforementioned foods to come up with delicious preparations that you will enjoy on a diet. Grilled burgers on whole-wheat buns, a turkey sub prepared with lots of greens, little dressing, and whole wheat bread, air-popped lightly salted popcorn, a bowl of yogurt with berries, a clear soup with your favorite flavors, etc., are all great ideas.

Finally, keep the salt and sugar consumption at the minimum, avoid caffeine rich drinks (drink green tea instead), and drink lots of water for effective weight loss. In this way, you will not only lose weight slowly, you will find yourself more positive and energetic. The whole purpose of a diet is to make you fit, not unhealthy. Enjoy every meal you consume and think of it as a treat for your body.

Note: Consult your doctor before making any changes or including any new foods in your diet. The tolerance towards certain foods differs from individual to individual. Unless you are deemed fit enough to follow a particular diet, do not take any such risks.

Healthy Diet Tips

In this section, all those healthy foods have been talked about, that can provide required nutrition to the body without adding any excess calories. Also, certain food items have been mentioned, which can lead to weight gain and hence, should be strictly avoided during your weight loss program.

Fresh Fruits: They have high nutritional values and are rich in vitamins and minerals that can improve the metabolic process of your body and provide energy for a long time. Although these fruits contain sugar, it does not add up to your body weight. This is because the sugar present in the fruits acts differently in the body in comparison to other forms of sugars.

Vegetables: Vegetables also have rich nutritional content that is essential for women. Vegetables like carrots, tomatoes, celery, lettuce, and other leafy vegetables contain lesser calories but higher nutritional value. You can eat them raw as salads or even in the cooked form.

Cereals: Whole grains are better in terms of both flavor as well as nutrition. Therefore, eat whole grain cereals, like, brown rice or buckwheat instead of white rice or any other processed grain foods. Whole grains are also rich in fiber, which is extremely important for a smooth process of digestion.

Protein: Protein is also very important for proper functioning of the entire body. Therefore, high protein foods, like, steaks and beans should be included in the daily diet. Instead of red meat, which has saturated fat, one should opt for poultry without skin, which will supply essential proteins to the body.

Dairy Products: Dairy foods are rich in calcium and vitamin D. If you eliminate dairy products completely from the diet, you may end up with deficiency of these essential ingredients in your body. Therefore it is advisable to eat dairy foods, like, milk, yogurt, etc., that are low in fat content.

Water: The most vital diet tip is that if you wish to lose weight fast, you have to drink plenty of water. Water flushes out all the toxins from our body and cleanses the system, which in turn, keeps you healthy.

Foods To be Excluded: Any processed high-carb foods have a tendency to slow down the process of weight loss. So when you are trying to lose weight, then you should stay away from foods like white rice, white breads, and pasta. Refined sugars are also exceptionally bad and often prevent weight loss. You should keep your hands away from all those foods and drinks, which contain refined sugars. Eliminate any kind of saturated fats from your diet. Cheese, butter, margarine, salad dressings, ice creams, etc., are all rich in saturated fats and hence you cannot afford to have them when you are on a weight loss program. If you want some oil to be used in your food, opt for unsaturated oils like olive oil. Most importantly, do not take carbs and fat together as both are rich in calories.

Tips for Diet Plans

Here are some tips, which will help you prepare your weight loss plans in such a way that you will be able to lose maximum weight in a short span of time:

  • If you perform workouts in the morning, you should do it with an empty stomach, to get maximum benefits. Of course, you should drink some water before starting the workout.
  • Never skip the breakfast no matter how busy schedule you have. This is one of the most useful diet tips that works invariably. Start your day with a healthy breakfast containing fruits and fiber rich cereals. It will keep your energy levels high and control body weight.
  • Keep six meals of small proportions every day. There should be a gap of two hours between the meals. Eating more number of meals will help you in losing extra fat as a large amount of calories are burned out in the process of digestion.
  • The quantity of each meal should not be the same. Rather, your breakfast should be the heaviest meal and as the day proceeds you have to make your meals lighter with the dinner being the lightest meal of all.
  • Avoid eating anything for at least two hours before bedtime. This is because, while sleeping very less amount of calories are burned. So if you sleep soon after having your dinner all the calories will get stored up inside the body in the form of fat.

Set some small achievable goals for yourself when you are trying to lose weight. If you expect too much from your diet program, then you may feel disappointed with the results and may feel like quitting the diet midway. Always have a realistic goal and try to achieve it with the help of above tips.

Diet Tricks Celebrities Use to Stay Slim

Celebrities, for some strange reason, have us believing that their svelte bodies are God's gift to them. But no, they can't have us fooled for long. Here's what some of the best bods in Hollywood do, in order to look like they do.

Paris Hilton once dined at the hip New York restaurant, Nobu. Any guesses as to what she ordered?
*Mineral water*.

Supermodel Heidi Klum gave birth to a bonny baby in 2009. Within months, she was back to her skinny self, hosting a Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. When asked how she shrank herself so soon, pat came the rehearsed reply... It was just light cardio. And I didn't diet.

New mothers will viciously try to scoff at her claims, but seriously, Ms Klum has indeed got to be a genetic marvel of nature, if she lost her post-delivery weight at the snap of a finger. Plebians like us, on the other hand, will have to survive on thin air, and perish on the treadmill to simply be able to enter the studio where fashion shows like those happen. And mind you, you'd already have perished by then.

Looking good is tough work, unless of course, you're one of those lucky few who can wolf down a pizza a day, and still look waif-like. Over to the celebrities, then?

                                                     Celeb-speak on Staying Slim

Just stop eating s**t every day.
- Jennifer Aniston
Thus spake the svelte Ms Aniston, who has a thing for baby food. Yes, that pureed mush which comes in those little jars that babies eat out of. That is precisely what Jennifer Aniston eats to look like she does. Pureed Brussels sprouts, anyone? Yumm!

It's not that I do crazy diets throughout the year. I just do it for this particular thing.
- Adriana Lima
The crazy diet Adrianna Lima's referring to, involves only drinking liquids for the nine days running up to the Victoria's Secret annual fashion show. Twelve hours prior, she stops drinking even those liquids in order to flush the water out of her system. Now, isn't that dramatic?

Every now and then of course, I go out and eat what I like. But I do try to be quite disciplined in the way that I eat.
- Victoria Beckham
Weed-thin Posh Spice is addicted to a seaweed called bladderwrack. Yes, you read that right. This bladderwrack thingy contains high levels of iodine, so much so that it wrecks your bladder...sorry... improves your metabolism, enabling you to look like a weed.

I had to lose 60 pounds. They had me on that treadmill. I ate lettuce!

- Beyoncé Knowles
Want to have a bod as hot as Lady Bey's? Be prepared to forget about that bag of chips forever. She eats a protein-rich diet comprising egg whites, protein shakes, and fresh fruit. Plus, three workout sessions a week, each clocking up to 90 minutes. And all of this, after she gave birth to a child. Phew!

I have a lot of inflammation in my system, so I'm not having anything I'm allergic to-no gluten, no dairy, no sugar.
- Gwyneth Paltrow
The queen of dieting has been following a quirky style of eating for quite some time now. Her fads include the macrobiotic diet, the kale and lemon cleanse, and those days when she only ate salads for days on end. She also, at times, chooses to snack on almonds instead of consuming a whole meal.

I'm off the fried foods.
- Cameron Diaz
There was a time when this super-slim actress boasted of having burgers, fries, and caviar everyday (don't believe that), but she's coming clean now. Nothing fried lands on her plate anymore, and it also looks like she's spending a lot of time at the gym.

When I really want to be good and control myself, I have lollipops in my handbag - instead of having a tiramisu, I have a boring lollipop.
- Sofia Vergara
The smokin' hot woman that she is, Sofia Vergara is also a rather smart creature who doesn't believe in depriving herself of any pleasures. Instead, she helps herself with tiny helpings of happiness, every now and then. See, you can't get a bod like her's through starvation, now, do you?

I also stopped smoking!
- Freja Beha Erichsen
The name Freja Beha Erichsen may not ring an instant bell, but she's sweated it out enough to be on several Vogue covers, and as we all know, fat creatures never get up there. So, when a model like Ms. Erichsen tells you to butt out your cigarette, you should listen to her.

I don't eat fast food or anything that's packaged or loaded with salt and preservatives.

- Jessica Alba
So what in heaven's name do you eat? Fresh fruit, steamed vegetables, and grilled, lean meat. All organic, of course. To the scores of women out there dying to get a figure like Jessica Alba, know that it will take every ounce of your resistance to give up what she's talking about. Who said staying slim was easy?

I do exercise! But I don't diet. You can't work when you're hungry, you know?
- Jennifer Lawrence
That's our favorite gal, Jennifer Lawrence, who famously replied to that infamous quote by Kate Moss, with this -
"I can name a lot of things that taste better than skinny feels. Potatoes! Bread!".
A refreshingly fresh breath of air in skinny Hollywood.

                        Quick Tips to Stay Trim

  • Anne Hathaway lived off a diet of "kale and dust," to look perfect in her black leather jumpsuit as Catwoman.
  • Megan Fox's secret to staying slim is to drink a combination of apple cider vinegar and water before every meal.
  • Jennifer Lopez carries a vial of grapefruit oil to smell, in order to break down fats.
  • Kylie Minogue eats a grapefruit before every meal as a way of accelerating weight loss.
  • Renee Zellweger eats ice to trick her mind into feeling full.
  • Uma Thurman survives on raw food.

Try these, test these, but I'd really recommend that you consult a nutritionist before you do. Just don't forget to drop a note if any of it works.
